I long for the days...

... when hot young movie stars knew how to dress at events. Thankfully, the suit (and to some extent, the tie) is back in vogue. But it isn't quite the same as it used to be. Most of them wear hideously cut ones with equally awful fabric or just show no imagination at all and end up looking like an extra in Men in Black or Reservoir Dogs. Even the older, more experienced ones.* No one has the name of their tailor to give you anymore, instead they have other names. Names like Gucci or Dolce & Gabbana.

A good tailor goes a long way as young Jimmy Stewart proves. Note the two charming young ladies -- on BOTH his arms. Frankly, I'd rather take the arm of a gentleman as easygoing and well attired as him instead of... who is this guy again? In his defence, he's wearing peaks, but hardly anything is working, including the cut of those lapels. I suppose most people would consider him well dressed, but there's something so offputting about that hair style, collar, and suiting fabric. I think it's also because he looks like he's wearing makeup.

*Please don't sue me, Mr. Lucas. It was too fitting to not use.

  1. I'm happy to see peaked lapels returning, though nowadays there is a tendancy to do them wrong. Very wrong.
